The soul as a readable — and rewritable — data-construct: scanned to expose impostors, edited to make a person new.
The soul metric is the record’s most database-flavored idea: the soul as a data-construct that can be read, verified, and edited. It appears twice, doing two very different jobs — once as forensics, once as surgery.
As forensics: in the Andromedan Council II session, the Council exposes a claimed Andromedan contact by pulling his file — “let us now look into his soul metric” — and reading off a verdict: the quantum signature doesn’t match the galaxy he claims. Identity, in the record’s cosmology, is checksummed; a soul can be audited like a document, and forgeries detected.
As surgery: the January 2025 session goes further — “Baramay universe: create new soul metric for Gabriel now” — the construct not merely read but rewritten, a fresh soul-record issued on request like a reissued passport. Taken together with the subtle bodies it inhabits and the life contracts it presumably stores, the soul metric completes the archive’s quiet redescription of the person as information: something a sufficiently advanced intelligence can query — and, more unsettlingly, update. Preserved as spoken, weighed by the reader.
